Make it Fun

Sun safety doesn't need to be difficult. Your probably thinking, yeah right...have you tried putting sunscreen on a small child lately? It's like pinning jelly to a wall, they are suddenly more agile than a ninja worrier. The solution is simple, make it fun and get them involved. Last summer we discovered zinc sticks and it was a total game changer. The kids love drawing on each others faces, creating animal whiskers, pirate scars and of course princess crowns. It's not only the ultimate skin protection but as a parent you can see exactly where they are covered. Remember to reapply every few hours, pop on your favourite rash vest and get outside and have fun!

You need to get your vitamin D....I have heard this throw away comment many times from parents while their children spend hours playing in direct sunlight with little to no sun protection. I agree you DO need your Vitamin D. Vitamin D increases intestinal absorption of calcium, magnesium and phosphate. I'm sure no one wants brittle bones or osteoporosis latter in life. For example all Tame the Sun swimsuits have a UPF rating of 50+, this means that only 1/50th (or 2%) of the UV radiation can penetrate the fabric. And why is it so important to protect skin from UV rays? Exposure to UV rays are a major...

Good Sun Safe Habits Start Young

The 80s were responsible for a lot of questionable things...permed hair, shoulder pads and blue eye liner. BUT this was also the decade that launched the super successful slip, slop, slap campaign. Fort this reason alone I'm willing to let the mullet hair cut trend slide. Slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat. Not the most poetic jingle but you get the point. Starting these three habits young will guarantee a high five from your future self. The experts says it takes between 21 - 66 days to form a habit. A drop of time compared to the potentially life saving benefits of covering up in the sun. Make putting on sunscreen as normal...
